AI Citation Index

AI Citation Index

The Citevana AI Citation Index is a monthly ranking of the websites that AI answer engines cite most often, built only from Citevana’s own AI-visibility sampling and published as privacy-safe, domain-level aggregates. It opens once enough sites contribute data; until then there is nothing to show.

Latest snapshot: October 2026, based on 0 AI answers that cited at least one source.

Methodology

  • Data source: Citevana’s own AI-visibility tracker. Each month we count, per engine, how many answers cited each website at least once. No third-party datasets, and no Google Search Console or Analytics data, are used.
  • API-sampled: answers collected through an official model API (for example with web search enabled). They approximate, but are not identical to, what people see in the consumer app.
  • UI-observed: answers captured from the engine’s public user interface through a data provider. They reflect what users see, for the prompt, country and language sampled.
  • Metric: citing answers = answers in the group that cite the domain at least once; share = citing answers ÷ all answers in the group that cite any source. Subdomains are grouped under their registrable domain.
  • Privacy: we never publish prompts, brand names, customers’ own website domains or workspace identifiers. A group is published only if at least 5 workspaces contributed, and a domain only with at least 20 citing answers from at least 5 workspaces.
  • Limits: prompts are chosen by our customers, so the sample is not representative of all AI usage. Topics are not classified yet. Treat the ranking as directional.

FAQ

What does the AI Citation Index measure?
It measures how often AI answer engines link to or cite each website in their answers, per engine, country and language, from Citevana’s own monthly sampling. Nothing is published until enough sites contribute.
Is customer data exposed?
No. Only domain-level totals are published, and only when at least 5 different workspaces contributed. Prompts, brands and customers’ own domains are never shown.
How often is it updated?
Once a month, for the previous calendar month (UTC), starting with the first month that has enough contributing workspaces.
Can I use the data?
Once a snapshot is published you can download it as CSV. Please cite Citevana AI Citation Index and the month of the snapshot.
