llms.txt checker & generator

Public websites only. We fetch the page once as CitevanaBot and don't store its content.

How it works

  1. Checker: we fetch /llms.txt from your domain and confirm it exists, is served as text, and starts with an H1 title.

  2. We look for the blockquote summary, H2 link sections with '- [name](url): notes' items, and an optional 'Optional' section.

  3. Generator: enter your site name, summary and links; we build a correctly formatted file you can copy or download and upload to your site root.

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?

It is a proposal published at llmstxt.org: a Markdown file at /llms.txt with an H1 name, an optional blockquote summary, and H2 sections listing links to pages with more detail.

Do AI search engines use llms.txt?

It is a community proposal, not an official standard, and support varies by tool. It is quick to publish and harmless, but it does not replace robots.txt, sitemaps or good on-page content.

Where do I put the file?

Upload it to the root of your site so it is available at https://your-domain/llms.txt, served as plain text or Markdown.

What should I include?

Your most useful, stable pages: product or service overviews, documentation, pricing, and policies. Put secondary links under an 'Optional' heading so tools can skip them when space is limited.

Is the Citevana llms.txt generator free?

Yes. Generating a file is free and unlimited; checking a live file is free within a daily limit.
